''Sure you could.'' Karai mumbled from under the covers as she dragged herself out of bed, grabbed a towel and headed for the well outside. ''You're going to have to wait- I am taking a wash now so put your groaning and complaining on hold or I'll make that headache worse.''Atemu's jaw twitched a little as if he was trying to keep silent when anger and fear was welling up in his chest tightly. No... Mana- you're my best freind but if you made it impossible for Nania and I to be together I cant.. I wont forgive you..''Please leave me.'' He ordered without looked at the magician. ''Just go.. I dont care where or why. I'm sure your precious Master Mahaado can think of something you should be doing.''

"But...", Mana started but quickly understood that this was not the moment to speak up, so she noddedn solemnly and walked out to return to her training for once without a smile.
Just as Mana was going out Seth walked in. "You seem anygry, my Pharaoh. Perhaps the news I bring might lift your mood.", he spoke calmly as if the whole matter did not matter to him.
"You are such a....", Touzoko-ou started, but didnt manage to finish since she left to go outside. "Damn that woman.", he whispered to himself as he drank some more water. The drunken nights they always had were fun, but he loathed the following mornings, since both were always in a bad mood with a horrible headache and two angry thieves are usually not a good pair. "Im going for a walk. And when I get back I want those herbs.", he announced as he passed her outside. Of course he could simply go and get them himself, but that was not a thing he would do. Shopping was a thing for women after all.

After her wash Karai dressed sluggishly and made herself up to make the red eyes and dark marks under her eyelids look less so. She hated and loved hangovers at the same time. Hated them for making her feel terrible but loved them for making HIM feel terrible. It was delightfully perverse to watch him wince and cower as he clutched his pain in pain.Eventually she sauntered down to the market where there was a few people wandering around after last nights dances.Atemu looked up at Seth. ''Yes?"

"Ishizu told me to inform you that the rooms for the Princess of Turkey have been prepared and that we are ready to welcome her any time now.", Seth informed his King. "But this is not the reason I came. In fact, I carry rather bad news. Several villages in the north have been raided and burned by bandids and thieves and we expect Touzoko-ou to be amongst them. We need to send troops there, but we cannot do it without your consent."
Touzoko-ou's walk was a lot shorter than he had planned for his headache seemed to get worse every moment rather than disappear. Whoever said that fresh air in the morning helps was an idiot, he thought to himself. But at least he was not the only one looking in pain. In fact, most of the villagers looked as if they had an awesome time the night before. When he got back home, the King of Thieves said down on the wooden bench in front of the hut and leaned against the wall of the house, just relaxing and waiting for Karai to come back with the herbs which might bring him some relief.

The king nodded impassivly- his forehead creasing in concern. ''Of course.'' Was all he said as he turned away from his untouched meal and began pacing the large hall in deep thought. The burst of joy and relief upon hearing how his plan was working became immeadiatly overshadowed by the presence of the theif king.
''Curse him.. of course- take al the men you need and more.'' He tod Seth seriously. ''I should go with them- it may be a dumb choice strategy-wise but they are MY people and I should be the one protecting them.'' Inwards ehe felt ashamed and sick- How could this happen? Is it punishment from the gods on me? I cant let Nania marry a failure of a king who cannot even protect his own people...
Karai loitered around slowly untill at last she found the herbs. No payment was made, of course- a swift snatch and they were all hers. She was gone through the small crowd before the stallkeeper even realised they were missing.
She arrived back at the house about an hour after she left. ''You look like hell.'' She remarked, walking inside and preparing the herbs for him. It was possibly one of the nicest things she'd done all week.

Seth nodded. Although the priests' job was to protect the Pharaoh they had all agreed that Atemu had to go and face the uprising himself. He was still a young monarch and needed to establish his power in the country. The people of Egypt needed to see that their King was ready to fight for them if the need happened to arise. "For when shall I prepare everything?", he asked.
"And you ARE hell. But now shut up and go and make that tea, cause my head really is about to explode. The beer they have in towns really is better than the cheap one we usually have." Touzoko-ou said as he didnt even bother to drag himself up from where he was sitting. In fact, he wouldnt mind staying there all day and have Karai do all the work.

Karai had to admit- it was a pretty good comeback. ''Well apparently so LIKE hell so shut up and stay quiet. I actually LIKE you hungover- you dont talk as much.'' She replied lightly as she finished grinding up the herbs and mixed them with some water from the well outside .''Here- and come in out of the sun. It'll just make you're headache worse.'' She said in a voice that almost could be described as kind. Almost.Atemu nodded. ''Of course- I leave immeadaitly.'' He ordered with an intentional swish of his cloak as he turned and strode for the doors. Within minutes he was running across the gardens towrds Nania and his meeting stop with a papyrus scoll in his hand. If she was'nt there he's leave this for her to read.

"I dont like hell, I am just forced to deal with it.", he said in a gruff voice as he followed her advice and went in. But once he drank some of the medicine and his headache started to disappear he said with a sly smile: "And hell usually means an adventure and no thief would say no to that."
Suddenly there was a small commotion outside. Boringly Touzoko-ou looked out of the window just to see a Commander of the Royal Army calling men together. "Several Villages have been attacked by bandids. It is suspected that the King of Thieves is amongst them too. Our Great Pharaoh is summoning soldiers to crush this uproar so that we all can sleep peacefully and continue our lives. Herewith I call all brave young men to join the regiment.", the man on the horse declared.
Touzoko-ou immediatelt turned to look at Karai. "What the hell?", he asked. "That is not part of the plan!"
Naina was in fact not in the meeting place yet, but had gone to pursuit her new job as a nanny for two lovely children aged 8 and 4. She was out on a walk with them and instintively took them to her favourite spot. Just as she approached it she could see Atemu's leaving form. "Stay here. I will be right back.", she told them and then quickly started running to still reach him. "Atemu!", she called him when she was sure that he would be able to hear her. She suddenly felt a cold shiver run down her spine. Something must have happened! He never would get out of the palace at this time if everything was alright!

Atemu froze when he heard her, as she reached him he spun around- grabbing her shoulders and kissing her deeply. When he pulled away there were tears in his eyes. ''I'll come back. I love you.'' Was all he choked out as he shoved a scroll into her hand and turned- running across the feilds and towards the palace.Within minutes he was back there and mounting his horse with armour all over his torso and limbs as he rode away from the city with the convoy- his heart heavier with every inch away from her.Nania.. (The scroll read) Bandits have attacked some villages in the west and north-west. I have to go and stop the chaos- I am so sorry but my country needs me. I'll come back for you but I dont know when and how. However this is what I want you to do; I have given instructions to a freinds to help you with this. Arrive at the palace in three days. At midnight tonight meet a freind of mine here. Her name is Mana and she will help you get into the role. Do this and we shall be together forever. You'res forever.. Atemu Karai's head jerked up and she ran out into the street to listen at the gaurds spoke up. ''Which villages?'' She cried in a panicky voice, pushing her way to the front of the crowd. ''Villages in the west and north-west- in the last week.'' The gaurd replied and Karai immeadiatly started sobbing. ''My sister! She lives in the main village over there- please, bring back any information.'' It was all an act of course to find out where and when the attacks were taking place but she figured some sympathy could'nt hurt. ''Well on the good side they think you're in the west.'' The theif remarked, walking back into the house breezily.

Of course this whole issue had its good points as well, but Touzoko-ou wondered who had created the rumor that he was amongst those bandits. I wonder whether someone dared to claim my title..., he wondered, but then he said out loud. "That means that the King might leave the capital, which in turn means that their whole wedding affair will be posponed giving us more time to waste." He smiled visciously at Karai. "I wonder whether our little 'friend' has heard the news already and how she reacted."
Naina had wanted to say so much, but he had disappeared too quickly. With trembling hands she had opened the scroll and read it. Her whole body was shaking at the sudden news. It surely was not what she had expected. I am not sad. What he is doing is just and I am proud of him. Only a true Pharaoh puts his people in front of himself., she thought fondly. Now I will have to give my best and play along with the plan as well as I can...although I am nervous about meeting this friend of his... She was snapped out of her thoughts by one of the kids tugging at her skirt. "I wanna go home.", the little boy moaned and so Naina lifted him up and carried him all the way home while his older brother was running ahead.
Once her work was finished she decided to pay her friend a visit, wondering whether he husband - being a palace guard - would be send along with the Pharaoh.

''But of course, my husband- being a gaurd and everything surely you will be expected to either go with the pharaoh to protect the country or stay behind to gaurd her royal highness when she comes to stay at the palace..'' Karai immeadiatly slipped back into character as she pushed the point across. ''If you went with the Pharaoh I could stay here and we'd both gain trust at two seperate angles .''When you get out there all you have to do is arrange a secret meeting with your own men and tell them to back down.... tell 'em of the plan... its simple. And if they ARE trying to usurp you then kill them.'' She grinned but suddenly twitched. ''Smell that perfume? Nania's near here..'' She whispered.Automatically tears welled up in the theif's eyes as she started to get into the character of a woman who's just been told her husband may have to go away into another land to fight as all the families would havebeen cautioned. And also- Nania thinks we've been married for a good few months now.. time to amp up her trust with a few more lies...

"I will have to go to put those idiots back into their place. They will know better than to mess with me. So you will be responsible for the situation here while Im gone.", he said sternly, but when Naina was mentioned he let out a sigh. Her presence meant that he would have to play the kind loving husband again and he was in no mood at all to do it. But he had to admit that he was amazed at Karai's acting skills. He closed his eyes and when he opened them he too was totally in his role.
"I am sorry, darling. But I HAVE to go. The Pharaoh needs me. It is an honor to fight by his side for the country's safety. YOUR safety.", he said as he placed his hands on her shoulders.
Naina could hear their voices from the door and shyly knocked on the old wooden door. "Im sorry, its me, Naina. Can I come in? Or is it a bad timing now?", she called.

Karai would have smiled if it wouldnt have given them away. Nania really was a trusting fool, but that made it easier for her to befriend the girl even more.
Time to reel her in.. The theif thought as she sobbed into Touzoku'ou´s shoulder in a heartbroken manner. It was actually hilarious for her to see her lover act so sweet and loving but it was also disconcerting to know that somewhere she felt more at ease with this side of him even if it was a fake.
´But i..if you go you may not come back.. an... an..what abu.. what about the baby??!´ She cried, clutching her stomach tenderly just as Nania walked in. Perfect timing.
Of course, she neglected to tell her counterpart that she was going to pretend to be pregnant but it made sense time wise. For a couple that had been married for some time, a baby was only to be expected and in doing so, making herself seem emotionally vunderable would actually help Nania to get closer and trust her more.
´Oh! Nania..´ She turned quickly as though just noticing her for the first time. ´Not at all come in.´ SHe smiled weakly, wiping her eyes and trying to looking normal.

Naina had heard the words of the conversation just too clearly and had to cover her mouth with her hand to hide the little scream of shock that was rising in her throat. Her friend was pregnant and the father might not come back.
She wished she could tell them that she would speak with Atemu about letting him stay, but she could not, because it would spill the secret. But her heart was obviously torn. She could not decide what was the right thing to do.
"I am sorry...I've heard you from outside...Is there no way you could stay together?", she asked hopefully.
"You two do not understand. For me this is the biggest honor I could get. Please, love, understand, I have to go. But I will surely return. Till then, Naina, I must ask you to take care of her for me. Especially in her current state." How he hated that role! He was ready to throw up upon hearing his own words. He was glad he would be able to escape that act soon for a while. "Yes, I promise I will be here for Nefertari.", Naina promised eagerly and Touzoko-ou wanted to laugh at the girl's naivity, but managed to hold back.
"I should be going soon...", he said in a regretful tone.

Nania...Nania...Nania... The footfalls of every horse seemed to drum out her name to Atemu as the convoy rode on through the blistering heat of the desert. Maybe I'm a bit obsessed with her... The pharoah thought, blinking sweat out of his eyes. Or maybe its sunstroke. Dragging Nania into this whole mess was dangerous, what if she gets hurt? What if she finds someone else when Im gone? What if .... He shook his head. No- Nania would be fine. He would have to rust her as much as he trusted himself.Karai nodded, holding back tears as she stood and walked over to her 'husband', wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him closer to her in a kiss. ''Come back safe.'' She told him not in Nefertari's voice, but Karai's. It was the one thing she had said that was heartfelt in some way.\.
